Newborn Photography FAQ

Newborn Photography FAQ

What is the best age for a newborn session?

We typically photograph newborns within the first 14 days following birth, ideally between 5 and 10 days old.  During this time, your baby will still be able to sleep deeply during the session.

When should I schedule my session?

Please contact us well in advance of your due date to reserve a spot. We book up fast and donèt want to miss our "window of opportunity". Let us know as soon as possible after your baby arrives, so that we can finalize a day and time for your session.

How long does a session take?

Newborn sessions usually take at least 3 hours.  This includes time for feeding and changing, as well as the option for some family and sibling portraits with baby at the beginning of the session. We reserve plenty of time and will never rush a session.

What should I bring?

We will talk before the session and walk you exactly through what will be happening and what to bring. We are of course fully equipped, but always recommend bringing a change of clothes. It’s almost impossible to avoid getting spit-up on or wet during a photo session when your baby is naked!!  Also, be sure to pack extra diapers, wipes, and a pacifier (if using).  If your baby is formula-fed, please be sure to bring extra bottles.  For most of the session, I will not need much assistance – it is a great time to relax and put your feet up!
